As an interdisciplinary lab, Constant establishes a bridge between art, new media, and the culture and ethics of the Web. An important field of interest is the way technological infrastructures, data exchange and software determine and shape artistic practice. The main thread running through Constant's activities is the use of free software to help shape the tools of the future. Variable, its three-year 'hub,' brings together several Constant projects: Open Hardware Studio, Open Sounds Lab, Open Source Publishing, and Open Source Video.
